Alejandro

I am probably the furthest thing from a Lady Gaga fan, but one of Meredith's favorite songs is "Alejandro". So much so that at night when she is going to sleep, Meredith just keeps singing over and over again, "Ale ale jandro, Ale ale jandro....don't call my name...Ale ale jandro, Ale ale jandro". They are so silly!!! They both have such a wide taste in music.....they love so many different kinds! It makes me glad, but at 2 in the morning when I hear someone running down the hall, necklaces jangling, and she pops up in bed, gets in my face, and starts singing Lady Gaga.....it's a very strange wake up call!!

The fight....

This has been the on going fight in our house this week:

Melanie: I am the oldest, because I was the first baby.
Meredith: NO!
Melanie: Yes, I was born first, and I am 4. You were born second, and you are 2.
Meredith: NO!
Melanie: Yes, when I turn 5 you will be 3. When I turn 6 you will be 4. I was the first baby.
Meredith: NO!
Melanie: Yes, when I turn 7 you will be 5. When I turn 8, you will be 6. When I turn 9, you will be 7.
Meredith: NO!
Melanie: Mommy, I'm right, aren't I? I was your first baby, so I am the oldest.
Mommy: Yes, Melanie, you are right. You will always be Mommy's first baby, which also means you are the oldest.
Meredith: DAT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why can't I freeze my children at this age?

**This was a post I just found from the beginning of January that for some reason, never posted!**

I know I am biased, but we have the cutest, sweetest children in the world. They are so loving and so sweet, every morning when Meredith wakes up she pops up and asks me "You lay with me tonight Mommy?" and asks me this throughout the day because both the girls like me to lay with them while they fall asleep, which I absolutely LOVE because it gives me some special time with each one of them almost every day, no matter how crazy the day. She is also learning how to say "Meredith" but it comes out "Merefitz." SO CUTE!!! And Melanie is just a sweet mess....she has been on an emotional roller coaster lately, going from my sweet girl one minute to Attitude-y Judy the next (can't wait for those teenage years!) But she is still my sweet girl, always trying to help me out, and especially trying to help her baby sister out. It's a good thing, but it's also kind of bad because now Meredith just assumes Melanie will do everything for her. The other day Meredith wanted something, and I told her she had to go get it, and she just looked at Mel and said, "Tanks Mal!" just expecting her to go!!

I also just snapped a fabulous picture of my 3 favorite people reading.....hopefully DFCS won't get a hold of this one! Eric is reading Hello Kitty, while Melanie is reading "Sh*t My Dad Says".....

Our little slugger!

4 1/2.....our baby girl is 4 1/2 years old today! I don't know where the time goes....Melanie has gone from a teeny, sweet little baby who refused to sleep to an amazing, smart, beautiful little girl with a mind of her own and has a heart bigger than anyone else I know. My friend once described Melanie as "the wild child with the heart of gold" and I think that is the most fitting description for this incredible little girl who surprises me every morning by bringing me a diet coke and snuggling with me every night. We are so blessed and lucky to have Melanie as our daughter, and I am so glad that we get to be her parents!

She has started softball, and she is doing wonderfully. Her team is pink and black, and they are called the Cougars!

Our little stinker!

Meredith is 2 1/2, and she is just plain crazy. Sweet, funny, creative, stubborn....she is just wonderful to be around every day, and life would be so boring without her. Our little Magoo is just beautiful inside and out.

She has been insisting that we call her "Merefitz", loves singing anything, and every morning wakes me up dancing and singing "Life is my highway" from ca cars. She is just a wonderful little girl who fills our life with joy!

Our gulls!

Can we just freeze them like this?!?!

My absolutely DISGUSTING weekend!

If you are reading this while eating, you may want to either stop reading, or stop eating, because you aren't going to be wanting to do both of this things together.....I had by far, the most disgusting weekend of my parenting life (possibly my whole life, but definitely my parenting life!)

It started on Friday afternoon when I was trying to get ready to go on my mom's night out with a bunch of my friends from the neighborhood. Melanie went in to use the bathroom, and I was playing with Meredith out in the kitchen, when all of a sudden I hear Melanie screaming, "MOMMY! HELP!" I go running to the bathroom, and a flood of poopy water is coming towards me. Apparently, there was a ton of toilet paper in the toilet, then Melanie used the bathroom, and when it wouldn't go down, she just kept flushing.....luckily, I caught it before it hit the carpet in the hallway, so at least I didn't have that mess to clean up. SO me, never really having to unclog a toilet, tried to plunge. Yeah. That didn't do much except put more water on the floor and on me. YUCK. So I call Eric to see what to do. He very sweetly says to just leave it and he will take care of it when he gets home, and as much as I would have loved to have done just that, our entire downstairs smelled like a sewer, (and at this point so did I!) so I wiped myself down as best I could, put the girls in the car and headed to Home Depot, where I am pretty sure I am now known as the crazy lady with the clogged toilet...I was in gym shorts and a tank top, (in February, mind you) running through Home Depot with 2 little girls screaming...4 different men who worked there came to help me find exactly what I needed, thank goodness. They were all looking at me like I was nuts, and at this point I even had the crazy lady eye twitch going on.....it was not a pretty sight. And also, all Meredith wanted to do was try out all the toilets they had out on the floor....the kid refuses to use it at home, but not at the store!! SO at this point, I had less than an hour before I was supposed to be going out, so I had to get home, snake the toilet not once, not twice, but FIVE times to get all the toilet paper unclogged, then get the nasty water all off of the floor, and then get myself cleaned up so that I would be presentable enough to go out to dinner!

So the next day, Saturday, was fine and uneventful......and then came Sunday. It was supposed to be nice out, so we decided to go up to Vogel State Park and take the girls hiking. Eric decided that instead of taking the straight, flat way, we would take the curvy mountainous roads which knocked 20 miles off of our trip. It would have been a great plan if Meredith hadn't gotten carsick literally 90 seconds before we got to Vogel. So she is throwing up in the back, and I am having to catch it with my hands so that it doesn't get all over all of the food and things we have below her feet. We got out at Vogel and got her cleaned up as best we could, put them back in the car and had to go find a Dollar General, where we had to buy her new clothes, a barf bucket, and a thing of febreze so that the whole car didn't stink!

I know that this is gross sharing all of this, but I know in a few years we will look back at all of this and laugh!!

The crazies!

My kids crack me up. We are eating dinner, and I made a casserole that has peas in it....mind you, it's tuna casserole, but Melanie says she doesn't like tuna, so I tell her it's salmon casserole and it's the best EVER! ANYWAY....Meredith isn't that crazy about peas, but she's usually pretty good about eating them when they are mixed in something. Instead, she is sitting there, singing, "Deck the halls wif boughs of holly, falalalalala, lalalala. Tis the season to be jolly, falalalala, lalalalala," and picking out each pea and putting it on to my plate!

This morning they found their Halloween costumes and were trick or treating. This afternoon they were watching Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas and singing Christmas carols. It must be totally awesome to be a kid and just celebrate whatever holiday whenever you feel like it!!

Things I never thought I would have to do!

Well, it has been quite a morning, and I wish I had taken pictures before I got everything cleaned up, but it's too late now! Anyway, here's the story....every night when I give the girls their bath, they get to choose what shampoo they want to use. We use the Suave kids, and each bottle is a different scent and has a different animal on it, and I do a silly voice and give a description of the scent...for example, the monkey shampoo smells like coconut. So I say something like, "If you choose monkey, you get the delightful scent of coconut, and you will feel like you are sitting on the beach staring at tranquil waves." Silly stuff, and they love it. Anyway, we are down to three shampoos in their bathroom....we have fishy, tooting monkey (it's almost empty so now instead of just monkey it's "tooting" monkey) and birdie. Last night I washed their hair, got them bathed and out of the tub, dried hair, etc. etc. Well, I forgot one big step. To put the shampoo back up high so that little hands couldn't reach it.

SO ANYWAY......while I was showering this morning, I put the t.v. on in the bedroom for the girls, pulled out some books and pillows, and I left them watching Rugrats and laying on the floor reading. I was in the shower for maybe 5-6 minutes, and I came out, and there was Melanie, lying on the floor reading. No Meredith. That's never a good sign. I asked Melanie, "Where is your sister?" and she says that she is in their bathroom. So I round the corner and see a little 2 year old mess. She took the 3 bottles of shampoo, plus all the baby wash, and poured it in the toilet. I didn't know what to do. She just started screaming, "I WANT TO BE THE GOOD GULL!" and I just laughed and said, "Too late!" and put her in her bedroom so that I could clean up without any other messes. I flushed the toilet to see if I could get some of the shampoo down, and it just started bubbling up! I had to flush it at least 15 times to get all the shampoo out, and then I had to clean up all the bubbles all over the bathroom. You know when kids pull pranks and just dump a ton of soap into huge fountains, and then when you drive by the fountain and the whole street is covered in bubbles? That's what the girls' bathroom looked like this morning. I just had to laugh.

Singin' in the Rain

Well, my love of old movies has been inherited by my eldest! We were watching Phineas and Ferb and this episode was a musical. Well, one clip came on with Phineas in a raincoat with an umbrella swinging around a lamppost, and Melanie shouts out, "Mommy! Phineas is dancing just like in 'Singin' in the Rain'!" I love that my 4 year old caught that reference!! :)

Funny story where I have to avoid using names...

I just have to laugh at what comes out of my kids' mouths. Lulu was over here checking her email, and she got an email from someone who Melanie knows. Lulu didn't know how to respond to the email, so Melanie looked at her and said, "You should write this. 'Dear _______, Why do you smell like tuna fish? Love, Lulu'". I almost fell off the couch....where does she come up with this stuff?!?!?!

"I WANT TO BE THE GOOD GIRL!"

This is what Meredith cries out every time she's screaming and we threaten to send her to her bedroom. I guess she thinks that there can only be one good girl in the house at a time??

She's a nut!

Melanie said something really cute earlier this week I wanted to add on here. We were talking about birthdays, and she looks up at me and says, "Mommy, EVERYONE'S birthday is before mine. Mine is the very last one. Well, I mean, except for Baby Jesus'!" That made me so happy that she understands that Christmas is Jesus' birthday!
