Kids say (and do) the darnedest things!

We had a really fun weekend!! The weather was absolutely gorgeous (especially for January) and we had a lot going on....birthdays, church, and spending the majority of Sunday out playing softball with Melanie! (I know she's my kid, but I think she is a natural!!) Mom Mom and Papa came out to see her play and Papa was offering his advice to her from the bleachers. While she was throwing, Papa told her to "Cock it back and then throw!" Melanie turned to him and screamed from across the field, "PAPA, I DON'T KNOW WHAT COCK IS!!!"

I took the girls out shopping to Michaels yesterday to pick out something for them to make for Eric for Valentine's Day. Melanie was walking beside me in the paint aisle, singing "Tik Tok" at the top of her lungs with Meredith dancing along in the cart. She stops singing, looks at me and says, "Mommy, who is Mick Jagger anyways?" People were giving me the strangest looks....

On Friday, Meredith somehow got on eBay and bid on a pink dress shirt for Eric, and then confirmed the bid, and THEN we got an email that she won it! So Eric now has a pink shirt on the way, courtesy of Meredith. Shopping is a gift she must have inherited from her mommy!

On Sunday, we took the girls to church, and they were both actually pretty good!! It was super cute because Melanie kept pulling Meredith into her lap and they were giving each other big hugs all throughout mass. The only really funny thing that happened was during communion, we walked up with the girls and the deacon was giving the girls' blessings. Melanie just smiled at him and followed Eric, and while he was blessing Meredith, she looked at him and started singing, "Baby Burrito, Baby Burrito" over and over again. He just smiled, but you could tell he was trying not to bust up laughing! I guess I am glad she starting singing her after bath song instead of something like Ke$ha or "Baby I Like it!" like she has been singing lately!

Meredith has also been doing the cutest "dancing" in the car lately. She says that she is dancing, but then you look back at her, and she is just taking her index finger and flexing it, making it "dance". It's really cute and I want to get it on video, but trying to video and drive at the same time makes it a little difficult!!

Funny kid!!

Ohhh, Meredith.....you sure do know how to make everyone laugh! Melanie decided that for my birthday, she wanted to go paint me something, so Mom Mom took them to go pick out something to "surprise paint" for me yesterday, and the weather was just blah! It was cold and rainy, and just nasty. I gave my mom money to pay for their projects, and she looked at Meredith and said, "Ooh, should we fly someplace warm instead?" Meredith looked at her and said, "No, I wanna go paint place!" Mom said, "Well, how about if we go somewhere warm after the paint place?" Mere grabbed her purse, looked up, and said "Okay!" and ran out the door. Love you too, kid!!

A few of my favorite things!

There are so many things that the girls do throughout the day that I just LOVE, so I wanted to jot them down real quick, because they make me so happy!

I love when Melanie calls Meredith her "best friend." All morning, she has been trying to help Meredith, and she keeps saying, "My best friend needs me to find her blanket. My best friend wants a hug. Can I get my best friend a waffle?" SO sweet!!

Meredith does something similar. She tells everyone that they are "My best sista eva." Or, "You are my best mommy eva." And, of course, "You are my best daddy eva." She also does this thing when the people she loves aren't with her at that moment. The other night we were out in 2 cars, and Melanie rode with Daddy, so it was just Meredith and me in my car. The whole way home, all I heard from the backseat was "I love my sista SO much! I love my daddy SO much!" over and over again. I know she does it when I'm away, too....when I was at the dentist the other day, Meredith stayed with Mom Mom and I got a text from her that said, "I love my mommy SO much. I love Mommy SO much!" She does it every day while Eric is at work, too.

One of my very favorite parts of the day is when Eric gets home from work. Not just because I am glad to see him, or because it means I get a little break :), but because of the way the girls react when they hear his key in the door. Last night, he wasn't even in the door and Meredith screams, "BIG GUY!!!!" and goes running to him. Melanie always goes running to him, too, but usually she just gives him a run down of EVERYTHING we did that day, and what she wants to do with him that night.

It also cracks me up when Meredith pitches her fits. If we tell her to go to her room, she just starts screaming "I WANT TO BE THE GOOD GULL! I WANT TO BE THE GOOD GULL!" She can flop in to tantrum mode faster that any other kid I've ever seen. It's honestly less than a second, and she will be down on the floor, flailing about. She also kind of takes on a cartoon character-like way when I have to pick her up during these fits, because her legs just keep moving, and she looks like she is trying to run in midair. I feel bad because I think this is just so funny!!

This is a new trick that they just learned....whenever Melanie wants something and wesay no, she will climb up in our laps and say "Please?? For your sweet girl??" Daddy is a sucker and it works on him everytime, and yes, depending on what it is, I am a sucker for it, too! But, our little parrot has learned this trick, too, and Meredith pulls this on on us now, too!! They definitely know our soft spots!!

There are so many things I love about my girlies, and I will add more posts later, but I am going to finish with this: It is January 21st, and every morning when we first wake up, we have to watch "Prep and Landing", which is a Christmas movie. It is so darn cute that they love Christmas so much that we are still watching all the Christmas movies they love, and they are still singing Christmas carols. Meredith sings "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" daily, and of course, Melanie is still singing "Last Christmas". I love them so much!!

Cars

Well, I have lost track of how long Meredith has been in love with "ca cars", but the love is still going strong! They are coming out with a new "Cars" movie in theaters this summer, and Meredith saw the trailer for it and she is SO excited about it!! Every morning, and at least 3 times throughout the day, we have the same exact conversation:
Meredith: "I go see ca cars movie?"
Me: "Yes, when it comes out this summer we will go see it."
Meredith: "Wif Mommy and Daddy and Mal?"
Me: "Yes, we will all go together."
Meredith: "I get popcorn?"
Me: "Yes, we can get popcorn."
Meredith: "I get a dink?"
Me: "Yes you can get a drink."
Meredith: (Pauses to think about it for a moment) "Okay, tanks Mommy!" and runs off.

Every single day! It's really cute and really funny!! This movie doesn't come out until the end of June (I think) so we still have a ways to go!!

Sips n Strokes

I have a new hobby....painting. Eric has been bugging me for years about getting a hobby, and I finally have one, and I LOVE IT! I get totally in the zone whenever I am painting, and the best part is, I can share it with my girls! They have kids classes and Sips n Strokes, too, and yesterday we went and painted a "pupcake". Now, I know that they are my girls, but I am seriously impressed by how well they do, especially for only being 2 and 4 years old! Meredith is a mess, but she puts all she has into her artwork, and never wants to stop. She loves to mix colors and explore, and she does not want any help from anyone. Melanie is a great little artist....she takes a lot of pride in her work, and it really shows! The only things we helped her with on her painting were the outlines of the actual pupcake, and she did everything else. I am so impressed by my kids (and my paintings don't turn out too badly, either!!)

Magoo's 1st Haircut

We hit a milestone in the Rein house last Thursday, January 6, 2011....Meredith went and got her first haircut. I am just amazed that the poor kid finally had enough hair to justify me taking her for a haircut! She was so, so good and her hair looks super cute. All she was concerned about was the lollipop she got afterwards! The next morning, she woke up asking to go back and get another haircut!! Now Mere is just walking around saying, "My haircut looka bootiful! My hair looka sooooo bootiful!!"

Why can't I freeze my children at this age?

I know I am biased, but we have the cutest, sweetest children in the world. They are so loving and so sweet, every morning when Meredith wakes up she pops up and asks me "You lay with me tonight Mommy?" and asks me this throughout the day because both the girls like me to lay with them while they fall asleep, which I absolutely LOVE because it gives me some special time with each one of them almost every day, no matter how crazy the day. She is also learning how to say "Meredith" but it comes out "Merefitz." SO CUTE!!! And Melanie is just a sweet mess....she has been on an emotional roller coaster lately, going from my sweet girl one minute to Attitude-y Judy the next (can't wait for those teenage years!) But she is still my sweet girl, always trying to help me out, and especially trying to help her baby sister out. It's a good thing, but it's also kind of bad because now Meredith just assumes Melanie will do everything for her. The other day Meredith wanted something, and I told her she had to go get it, and she just looked at Mel and said, "Tanks Mal!" just expecting her to go!!

I also just snapped a fabulous picture of my 3 favorite people reading.....hopefully DFCS won't get a hold of this one! Eric is reading Hello Kitty, while Melanie is reading "Sh*t My Dad Says".....

Beach Trip

The Tuesday after Christmas, we departed on a much needed family trip! We didn't really get our family trip this summer with Eric's bank changing over and everything, so we took a couple days and went to Savannah, Hilton Head, and Charleston. We had a blast! I was sick, but I was just glad to be with my family. Just walking along the beach made us more relaxed! I think we are going to have to find more weekends to make our way down towards the beach this winter/spring!! It was pretty funny.....when E and I were in college, he drove down to Georgia Southern and we went down to Hilton Head to go to the beach one day and we were right by a resort that the gate for their pool was open, so of course, we went and swam! When we got to our hotel in Hilton Head, we realized that it was the same resort we had snuck in to 10 years ago....it was funny because I never would have thought that one day we would have our kids down there!!

Christmas!!!

Wow.....what a Christmas!! I don't even know where to begin with this one....

Let's see. First of all, we had 2 little monkeys in our bed at 2 a.m., singing and dancing. Meredith was doing her little dance while singing, "Baby I like it!" (Nothing says Christmas like your 2 year old singing Enrique.) Eric and I looked at each other, and we knew that they were not going to go back to sleep, so we decided to let them go downstairs and open presents. Well, Santa brought their car, so they were THRILLED!! We had all the presents open by 3, and well, to put it nicely, I felt like Santa and his reindeer had repeatedly run over my head and chest in their sleigh. I felt awful. "Luckily" I made breakfast to just pop in the oven on Christmas Eve so I wouldn't have to do it on Christmas morning. So I went back to bed, and Eric put breakfast in the oven. Well, the next thing I know, he comes up and tells me that the breakfast leaked out on to the heating element and started a fire....it was in the oven, but it was so high that the flames were coming out of the burners, so he had to use the fire extinguisher to put it out. (I did not know how much stuff came out of fire extinguishers, but it was a HUGE mess.) So by 4 a.m. on Christmas morning, we had opened all of the presents, plus put out a house fire.

We got the girls back to sleep after that, and I woke back up at 7 to make myself some tea. I didn't realize that the breakfast had leaked all over the burners when Eric pulled it out of the oven, so when I used the kettle, it started smoking, setting off the smoke alarms for like 15 minutes, waking Eric and scaring the you know what out of him (the girls slept right through it).

Thankfully, the rest of our day was pretty uneventful except for all the SNOW! We had a real white Christmas, and it was amazing. I couldn't go out in the snow, but Daddy took the girls out sledding with Bobby, "Rafalella", Lulu, Tommy, and Mom Mom, and they had a blast! It did turn out to be a wonderful Christmas. :)

Where does milk come from?

Meredith watching a Chick-fil-A commercial: "Cow! Cow!"
Eric: "You like cows, don't you?"
Meredith: "No."
Eric: "Well, you love milk....where does milk come from?"
Meredith: "Target."
