I feel like we have been sick this whole month! So far we've had 2 stomach bugs, strep, a cold, and a teething toddler. I'm just glad that February is the shortest month of the year!! I have been jotting down a few Melanie and Meredith-isms in my absence from here....
First off, Melanie and I were bedridden all day Saturday with a nasty stomach bug, so we used my cell phone (ahhh, gotta love technology) to call down to Daddy whenever we needed something. On probably his 6th trip up and down the stairs bringing Melanie her gingerale and crackers, she looked at me and said, "Mommy, I could get used to this!" I laughed a little then, because if I had laughed as hard as I wanted to I'm pretty sure my head would have exploded, I felt so icky. Thankfully, Eric took Meredith down to Mom Mom's for the day and night and she was the only one of us not to get sick, so thanks Mom!!
Last night, Eric rented some movie that I had no intention of watching, and since I'm still not 100%, I put Meredith to bed and Melanie and I went and watched t.v. up in our room while Eric watched his movie downstairs. So we are laying in bed, and we hear the movie downstairs and we heard all of this gunfire (on the t.v., of course.) Melanie looks up at me and says, "Mommy, do you think that's Daddy taking care of that nasty cat?" I didn't even know what to do, our little 3 year old girl asking me that! She's crazy!!!!
Melanie also has a new favortie song...."Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. Yes, I have Spice Girls on my Ipod and while it was on shuffle the other day, "Wannabe" came on while I was in the shower, and I couldn't change it. Now, Melanie is hooked! I think we listen to it about 15 times a day.....our car trip to Chicago next week should be interesting!! :)
The vocabulary on the child....she told us the other night that Meredith is her "nemesis". I know she got that from "Phineas and 'Berg'" but it's still really funny because she was mad at Meredith for something and she used it in the right context.
This is a funny one....we live a few miles from a chicken plant, and whenever we drive by it on the side road or on 575, we can sometimes smell it. Melanie knows where it is, but whenever she smells anything in the car, she blames it on the chicken plant. We were out running errands the other day and she said, "Oooh, Mommy, the chicken plant stinks!" We weren't even close to the plant, so I said, "Honey, we aren't by the chicken plant." She starts laughing and says, "Oh, well, then it must be my toot." We raise them with class here! She also will come up to me and say, "That thing you smell? That's my toot." At what age do you start to get embarrassed by your gas instead of amused by it??
This may be one of my favorite things that she says. Anytime Melanie sees an American flag, she gets all excited and says, "Mommy, there's Meredith's birthday flag!" I think that is so cute!
She also has an obsession with the blow up things that are supposed to be people and they are waving and moving around and are brightly colored....I have no idea what they are actually called, but everytime she sees one she gets all excited and shouts out, "Daddy!" (She has been doing that for a couple years now, but I don't know if I've ever documented it.)
As for Meredith....I feel like I always have more to say about Melanie because she talks more right now and does more stuff, but Meredith is just thriving. She is getting in to everything, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES "Cars"....she has her jammies that she wears every single night, along with her slippers, her cups, her plate and silverware at dinner, her gummy vitamins (we can't walk by the cabinet where we keep them without her going "Ca cas!") her toys, and we watch the movie at least once a day. She loves it! She calls them her "Ca cas" and says that phrase at least 100 times a day (no exaggerating there.) We have been calling her "Little Irene" because the way she looks (sometimes) and some of the mannerisms and the way she acts remind us all of my Grandma Wesley. She has a "baby" that she has to take to bed with her every night, of course, still with her blanket. She ADORES her big sister, and wants to be just like her, and Melanie is the best big sister. One of her favorite words is "Saaa shaaaa" and we don't know what it means, but it's really cute. She still does the "Uhhhhh huhhh" and the "Uhhhh uhhhhh" for "Yes" and "No", announces to the world when she "pe pes" and loves to say "buh bye", waves backwards, and claps whenever she hears an audience on t.v. applaud (Mel Mel used to do those things, too).
While I am trying to type this, my babies are in the playroom, putting on all this jewelry and turning themselves in to princesses. Poor Meredith's Sleeping Beauty crown keeps falling off because the poor baby still doesn't have a ton of hair to hold it in! They have so much fun together. She also just swiped a whole box of "Cars" graham crackers off the counter, which I am 99% sure are now dumped all over the playroom floor. It's a good life!
